![]() ![]() ![]() I was really hoping this video doorbell was going to be better than the reviews were saying and that hopefully they had fixed software issues by now, but unfortunately not. They blame everything on your wifi connection or the thickness of your walls, even when the problem is obviously a software bug. If you're near the DVR you can pull it up fairly quickly but it's not easy to navigate.Īnd finally their support is not great. In addition if you're trying to look through multiple recorded events to find something specific, it randomly stops being able to play recorded videos so you have to get out of the app and go back in and reconnect and get back to where you were. This is a bug in the app that also happens with the regular security cameras too. ![]() So if someone rings your bell and you're a bit slow at getting the app pulled up, the most recent recording is not available for you to watch. Third, when connected through the DVR, you cannot view the most recent recordings from a smart phone. The DVR connection also makes the doorbell access even slower and more clunky than using it as a standalone doorbell. Also if you set a motion alert schedule, it disables all recordings (not just alerts) during the off schedule hours. If you set masked areas, then the camera will not record anything in the motion areas. That was while using a microSD card, you do have masking abilities when connected to their DVR, but unfortunately that system is full of bugs and doesn't work at all. With this system, you get the same alert for a blowing tree limb as you would for a porch pirate stealing a package. You should be able to mask out the street and still record and alert on the motion outside of the masked area. Second, you cannot mask or block areas of the camera view from triggering alerts or recording on motion. Unfortunately that option is not available anymore, and you cannot use the old app with the new doorbell or DVR. The access to cameras and recordings was significantly faster that way. In the previous app you could setup local connections to your DVR as well as use your own dynamic DNS service. with much regret.įirst the app is very slow, I suspect this is because you have to go through Nightowl servers to get to your cameras and recordings. I've had a Nightowl camera system for years and upgraded to their new hybrid wireless DVR this year so I could integrate the doorbell camera. The Nightowl Connect app is absolutely horrible. I've used it with a micro SD card and also connected to a wireless Nightowl camera system. I purchased this because you can use it with local storage without being forced to pay for cloud service. Install was easy, and the price is right. The doorbell itself is a nice quality piece of equipment. I Found Night Owls customer service is ok if you have simple problem, if not you are told someone will call you within 48hrs? It has good reviews, so maybe others had no issues, I just didn't want to fool with it anymore. This happened to me while out of town, so I couldn't re-pair the thing so felt there was no since in keeping it if does not consistently working properly. Also, found out if there is a power outage and you lose Wi-Fi, "guess what" you have to be at home to re-pair the doorbell for it to work again( Basically reload everything all over again). Worked, but never could get the night vision (At night no picture unless I turned porch light on) or alert to my cell phone to work.
